Structural skylight installation & rope access rigging
Project Overview
A commercial building in Derby required a new structural glass skylight to bring natural light into a previously dark internal space. The roof pitch and height meant the safest and most efficient method of installing the glazing units was via rope access, avoiding a large temporary roof scaffold.
The Work
Working from rope access anchor points across the roof, our team installed the skylight structure and glazing:
- Rigged rope access anchor points across the roof to the required safety standard
- Built the structural glazing bars and upstand framework for the new skylight opening
- Lifted and installed toughened, laminated glass units into the skylight framework
- Sealed all glazing joints and roof junctions to a fully weatherproof standard
- Fitted internal trims and flashings to complete the installation
- Carried out a weather test to confirm the skylight was watertight before handover
