Project Overview
A homeowner in West Bridgford, Nottingham, had noticed a damp patch spreading across a ceiling below a flat-roofed extension, with the leak worsening after heavy rain. On inspection, the cause was a combination of a perished flat roof membrane and a failed seal around an adjoining skylight, both letting water track into the roof structure.
The Work
Our roofing team diagnosed the leak sources and carried out a full repair over two days:
- Carried out a full inspection of the flat roof and skylight to trace the source of the leak
- Cut out and replaced the perished section of roofing membrane around the affected area
- Removed and re-fitted the skylight with a new weatherproof upstand and seal
- Checked and cleared the roof's drainage falls and outlets to prevent standing water
- Applied a fresh liquid-applied coating across the repaired area for added protection
- Carried out a hose test to confirm the roof and skylight were fully watertight
Results
The homeowner's leak was fully resolved with minimal disruption:
- The source of the leak was identified and permanently resolved
- No further water ingress recorded through the following winter
- Work completed in 2 days with no need for internal ceiling repairs beyond redecoration
- Advice provided on ongoing gutter and roof maintenance to prevent recurrence
